Velankanni festival trains are announced today by Indian Railways. Velankanni festival is one of the biggest christian festival to people around the world. Velankanni Festival is usually celebrated at the Velankanni Temple.  This is one of the biggest fabulous festival of Velankanni church and it will be celebrated from August 29 to September 9th every year. So people will go this velankanni temple during this festival season. In order to avoid rush Special trains to Velankanni Festival  will be declared by Indian Railways. Velankanni Festival Special Trains [Aug 29th – September 9th ]

Velankanni festival is celebrated every year from August 29 to September 8. September 8 is considered auspicious because it was the day the Portuguese sailors first landed in these parts and they built the first actual church. On August 29 a huge procession of devotees make their way to the church. The impressive flag hoisting ceremony marks the beginning of the festival. This ceremony is attended by the district collector and other VIPs. At 8 pm, the chariot procession starts with three chariots of The Mother, St Michael and St Joseph. This chariot procession takes place every day of the festival. On the penultimate day six chariots join the procession and on the last day seven. Mass is usually conducted in Tamil, Malayalam and English, from 6 am in the morning till 6.30 pm in the evening (rosary and novena prayers). During the festival days the Mass is also conducted in English, Konkani, Marathi, Malayalam and Telugu.

The following special trains will be run to clear the extra rush of traffic in view of Velankanni Festival – 2016. Note all the below special trains are special fare trains (i.e.) Extra fare will be collected than normal ticket.

Special trains For Velankanni Festival between Chennai Egmore – Velankanni:

Train No.06003 Chennai Egmore – Velankanni special fare special train will leave Chennai Egmore at 22.45 hrs. O­n 05thSeptember, 2016 and reach Velankanni at 06.45 hrs. The next day.

Train No.06004 Velankanni – Chennai Egmore special fare special train will leave Velankanni at 22.30 hrs. O­n 06thSeptember, 2016 and reach Chennai Egmore at 07.20 hrs. The next day. It will stop at Manbalam also

Composition: AC 2-tier – 1, AC 3-tier – 2, Sleeper Class – 8, General Second Class – 4 & Luggage-cum-brake van – 2coaches.

Stoppages: Tambaram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Tiruppadiripuliyur, Chidambaram, Sirkazhi, Mayiladuthurai, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam.

Velankanni Temple Special trains between Tirunelveli – Velankanni

Train No.06006 Tirunelveli – Velankanni special fare special train will leave Tirunelveli at 15.25 hrs. O­n 04thSeptember, 2016 and reach Velankanni at 03.15 hrs. The next day.

Train No.06005 Velankanni – Tirunelveli special fare special train will leave Velankanni at 17.00 hrs. O­n 05thSeptember, 2016 and reach Tirunelveli at 04.35 hrs. The next day.

Special trains for Velankanni Temple between Thiruvananthapuram – Velankanni

Train No.06008 Thiruvananthapuram – Velankanni special fare special train will leave Thiruvananthapuram at 22.45 hrs. O­n 04th September, 2016 and reach Velankanni at 14.00 hrs. The next day.

Train No.06007 Velankanni – Thiruvananthapuram special fare special train will leave Velankanni at 18.15 hrs. O­n 05thSeptember, 2016 and reach Thiruvananthapuram at 07.30 hrs. The next day.
